Admission Requirements:

 

            UME Entry Requirements

Candidate seeking admission into the five year programme in Animal Production and Health programme should possess the SSCE, NECO or NABTEB or equivalent with credit passes in these five subjects vis: English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology or Agricultural Science, at not more than two sittings. In addition, applicants must obtain an acceptable credit pass in the Universities’ Matriculation Examination (UME): The UME Subjects are:

  • ØEnglish Language
  • ØChemistry
  • ØMathematics
  • ØPhysics
  • ØBiology/Agricultural Science

Direct Entry

Applicants should possess in addition to 4(a) above, GCE (Advance Level) or equivalent in at least two Science subjects in any of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics/Biology/Agricultural Science or a National Diploma.

     DURATION OF THE PROGRAMME

The period for the completion of the programme is ten (10) semesters. A maximum of fifteen (15) semesters through UTME is allowed. For the Direct Entry a minimum of eight (8) semesters and a maximum of twelve (12) semesters for a full-time degree programme is allowed.

 

FARM PRACTICAL YEAR

Aside availing Industrial Training opportunities to Students via the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES), the Department develops her students during their fourth (4th) year of the programme. This involves teaching and practical/research farm activities. Each farm activities/enterprise comprise different courses which are assessed by University departments that teach the course(s) according to SIWES guidelines.

EXAMINATION AND GRADING OF STUDENTS

Each course are assessed separately based on students’ performance at field/practical activities. The assessment will cover logbook, report and oral interviews during and after each enterprise activities. The final reports comprising of individual reports to each Department and oral performance to be assessed separately.

DISSERTATION/PROJECT

During the student’s  fifth/500 level year, each student is assigned a thesis supervisor who mentors and supervises their project work. Each student is expected to present his/her project to the Department at a score seminar forum. The forum comprises all lecturers in the Department, invited lecturers and students. The seminar house, supervisor and the external examiner will undertake scoring of the thesis.

COLLATION OF EXAMINATION MARKS

Examination results are to be ready within two weeks after the completion of semester examinations.

AWARD OF DEGREE

A student shall qualify for the award of a degree when he/she shall have:

Abided by the school rules and regulation for admission, character and conduct, accumulated at least 212 credit units for students admitted through UTME and 168 units for those by direct entry, passed all courses recommended for this option and obtain a CGPA of not less than 1.50; and  successfully completed all class work; industrial attachments, entrepreneurial assignments, seminars and projects.

SUPPORT: Members of the Department are encouraged to solicit support and useful affiliations with the International community and other well established and recognized Universities in other parts of the world. This is with view to developing the Department, University and the globe as a whole.

 

ADMISSION AND REGISTRATION PROCEDURE

Students should follow the National and the FUOYE Admission and registration procedures. Students for admission must possess the relevant credits at O’ Level and passed both the UTME and Post UTME. Students must pay all the necessary school fees and must be of good character. After due process of screening at the Faculty and Departmental offices, the candidates will be provided with the list of courses for the semester for registration purposes.
